Polestar was formed in 1996 by Volvo and parent company Geely. Although Polestar is co-owned by the two brands, it is an independent company and has its own range of models. Although it may not have been the intent upon the creation of the company, it went on to exclusively produce electric vehicles, which it did with the Polestar 1, the company's first release. Polestar also doubles up as an innovation lab for Volvo, creating designs and technology that can help to future-proof the brand.
Due to the company only being formed in the mid-90s, the history of the company isn't as rich as that of Ford or Volkswagen, for example, but it is still relevant nonetheless. The formation of the company in '96 can be traced back to a Swedish motor racing team, known at the time as Flash Engineering. The team was then sold and subsequently rebranded to the Polestar name we all know today. It wasn't until 2009 that Volvo was announced as Polestar's official partner, with this marking the beginning of their working relationship together.

Polestar was originally founded in 1996, eventually being bought by Volvo in 2015. Volvo then announced that Polestar would be producing high-end electric vehicles, with the brand also acting as an innovation lab for Volvo. The first Polestar car to be produced after the Volvo acquisition was the Polestar 1, a 2-door hybrid sports car. The Polestar 2 then followed - an all-electric car, offering a more spacious option for families as a 5-door liftback.
Founded in Sweden, Polestar's headquarters are currently based in Gothenburg, with Thomas Ingenlath as CEO. In 2020, the company won their 4th Red Dot award, with the Polestar 2 leading the way to a win. With multiple awards under their belt, Polestar has its eyes set on the future with continued production of top-end luxury EVs and HEVs.

The Polestar 1 is a plug-in hybrid sports car that has been in production since 2019. The 2-door features an engine mounted at the front of the vehicle, with 2 electric motors located in the rear. Upon completion of the final production run, the Polestar 1 was unveiled at an auto show in Shanghai, with the showcase model sporting a matte-gold lick of paint. The car itself was the same as the other models produced with the paint being the only difference. The striking vehicle was one of only 25 that were made, with each retailing at an increased price of the normal Polestar 1 cost.
The vehicle itself offers an impressive spec, with its electric motors being capable of travelling up to 77 miles on a single charge, making it the longest distance hybrid to date. The powertrain technology also ensures that the vehicle isn’t lacking in the power department with the Polestar 1 being capable of 609 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. All of this power is packed inside the carbon fibre design, which the company showcases as the perfect example of precision. The overall design of the vehicle is uncompromised, largely due to the series of high-grade components it features.
The Polestar 1 features a plethora of cutting-edge tech too, with a built-in touch screen, driver display and even voice control. These stunning features allow you to easily access controls via the screen, see important data in real-time on the dash display and control core vehicle functions without having to take your hands off the steering wheel. These features are the perfect example of modern vehicles and are essential in what's considered a high-end experience.
Perhaps the most dazzling feature of all is the Polestar app, which allows you to check battery and fuel levels and lock/unlock your car! The digital key, which is controlled by your smartphone, allows you to prepare your vehicle as you approach, unlocking the doors, opening the boot and starting the engine. This feature allows you to seamlessly integrate the operation of your vehicle into your daily life and carry out tasks such as loading shopping into your car more easily. At the same time, this feature removes the possibility that you could lose your keys and be locked out of your vehicle.
The Polestar 2 is the second model to be produced by the company and is capable of achieving a range of 335 miles on a single charge. It also kicks out up to 408 hp or 300 KW of power, helping it rank as one of the most complete electric cars on the market, according to TopGear magazine. The driving experience of the Polestar 2 has been designed to be as pure as possible, requiring minimal effort to operate and inducing no stress for the driver. This is shown through the car's excellent handling and power capabilities, which have been fine-tuned to give the driver confidence whilst on the road.
Unrivalled electric performance is what Polestar strives for, and with this model, the manufacturer has shown that they're pulling no punches. It's not all bravado or bold spec lists either, as the Polestar 2 features elegant design elements such as smart door handles, frameless mirrors and 19” 5-Double Spoke Black Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels, which make it an impressive spectacle in terms of design. LED lights and built-in sensors help to ensure that the car is safer on the roads too, with a 360-degree view of its surroundings which protects both you and other road users.
The interior of the Polestar meets the same high standards set by the exterior, featuring innovative materials that balance comfort with durability. The minimalist style choices give the inside of the vehicle an extremely modern look with a slightly futuristic touch. This is enhanced by the hidden mood lighting, which can help to lift the interior in the dark. The clean design cuts down on clutter, giving a good sense of space whilst in the vehicle. High-quality entertainment features aren't forgotten either, with a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system built-in to provide high-fidelity audio throughout the vehicle. Sound distortion is kept to a minimum, which is helped by the clean bass sound. Finally, 250 watts of power is channelled through eight speakers, allowing you to enjoy high-quality sound no matter where you're sat.
